As others have said before me, this set of picture discs is one of the better ones out there. Other than the familiar swishing sound, that is inherent to picture discs, these discs sound pretty amazing for what they are. Sure they could sound better on black vinyl (or coloured for that matter), but this is a pretty good start. Amazon DE's price is just right for this set at 130/140 euro at the time of writing this.
These vinyls were a surprise I did not expect. When buying a) A Harry Potter OST and b) Picture discs, I said to myself "Well, this is going to sound pretty mediocre, but I still want these soundtracks on vinyl". Plus, it's not really wallet-friendly.Oh boy, how wrong I was (and I love being wrong about this sort of things). This release is absolutely fantastic, considering the format and the target audience. The package is a very pretty box, housing a very cool set of 5 movie soundtracks. The front and back covers are actually the vinyls, so you can change the picture, simply by inserting the vinyls inside anyway you like. The sound is AMAZING. So amazing, that I doubt this could sound any better on black vinyl. If it could, than the Harry Potter movies can be proud to feature some of the best sounding original soundtracks out there. Really great dynamics, deep bass levels and great depth. Yes, surface noise is pretty loud, but you can't expect anything else from picture discs. But once you accept it, you won't even hear it.All in all, a fantastic release. If you like these soundtracks, buy this set. Sure, it's a gunshot to the wallet, but you won't regret it. Plus, vinyls are forever, unlike most things you buy in life.
Rose Of Winds
Surprisingly better quality than what I had anticipated. Probably the best sounding picture discs I own. While not the format I would want, these soundtracks mean a lot to me and the packaging is solid.
Mysterious Wrench
Good pressing for pictures disc...Happy. nice Box !
Sadly they are picture discs. Can someone say if they sound good?
I finally decided to go for it and I'm overall happy with it. I bought it for the first three of course and the quality is really good, despite them beign picture discs. They have that caracteristic suface noise, but when the music plays it's not that much notorious. I have other picture discs and I can assure that these are the ones that sound best.
Not bad a little noisy. Pops and ticks here and there. Good quality as far as picture disks go.
I had a concern about the picture discs as well - but bought the set anyway. And yes, they do have that constant swish/wind underlying sound throughout whtich is typical for picture discs - and it's audible between songs and during quiet passages. But there are no cracks in sound. The physical box is very nice - with a flap over opening (with magnets) and each side of the 10 vinyls have a unique picture - so a total of 20 pictures. And each disc is inserted into a nice clear polysleeve - not just inserted into the diecut sleeve.
