Morgan Geist's THE DRIVING MEMOIRS starts with the mellow "Doorbell," but once "Flat Out" hits, the electro kicks in a little stronger. "Resolved" adds a bit of sparkle to the funk, which takes full effect in "Food And Fuel" (though a Caribbean flourish keeps things light). Indeed, Geist adds little touches to maintain aural interest, from the introductory drum roll of "Linking Tunnel" to the brightness and eventual decay of "This Too Shall Pass." "Self Init" starts with a jazz riff, but chugs and blips into its own being, and "You Don't See Me" closes things out with more slow, bright funk. Give this album a test drive, definitely.
